Dennis' Donation Story
Post 3: Getting Impatient

Being able to search for and find information in an instance has made me more impatient. Being on this side of the donation process where all I really want to know is what exactly is going to happen on the day of the surgery doesn’t seem like that much to ask. Especially when the doctor told me that this was what was going to happen: We’d have a call that will discuss what I need to do to properly prepare (as in food prior to surgery), what to expect during the day of the surgery, and what time the surgery will happen.
Apparently I am not going to get this information. Just an email telling me when and where I need to be for the procedure to take place. I know that I am not special in anyway, but I would have hoped for a little more care from the medical side. Georgetown performs the most amount of bone marrow procedures in the nation (and by extension, the world) yet something so simple is not necessarily a requirement. Kind of strange.
At the very least, NMDP will be sending a driver to pick Melissa and me up from our apartment the day before the procedure so we can stay at the hotel that is directly across the street from the hospital. That’ll make things significantly easier. I just wish I knew what to expect on the day after!
